Just received this awesome multifunctional knife designed for the Bundeswehr.
Unlike my KM 2000 I ordered previously, the blade edge came dull but after sharpening it with the diamond sharpener attached to the knife sheath for a few minutes, it became sharp enough to easily slice a piece of paper. The sharpening process has left some scratch on the black coating on the blade, but so what? This is a workhorse and bona fide military knife, not a drawer queen. I like the way it looks and it adds some character to it. These knives come with a cord that looks like a shoelace, so I replaced it with TOUGH-GRID 750Ib “Mil-Spec.” camo-green paracord. It can withstand the weight of over 300kg and I made the paracord long enough (approx. 10m) so in case of emergency, it will do some good.
Recondo III can be used as a fighting knife but I’d say this is more like a multifunctional kmife rich in versatility; it can perform the tasks of a knife, saw to cut the wood, glass breaker for emergency, wire cutter and more depending on one’s creativity. More than KM 4000 I like this one because of the camo-green polyamide handle and shaeth and it blends in well with the woods.
I can say nothing bad about the knife and since Eickhorn KM (Kampfmesser) series are not yet available in Japan where I live, I’m really grateful to GKS for offering me these wonderful German military knives at lower price than any other shops I know.
