The three stainless steel rivets on the handles offer a nice contrast to the dark wood and give this knife a certain elegance. The double hollow bolster complete the extraordinary appearance. For the blade you have the choice between stainless and carbon steel

I was looking for a nice, sturdy slip joint pocket knife made of carbon steel, and this Otter 3-Rivet knife is everything I could have asked for. This knife was clearly designed for work, and I believe it can take anything you can throw at it. The handle is made of tough oak, and shaped in such a way to be comfortable in hand with prolonged use. All the rivets are clean ground and flush with the wood. The grooves that were ground into the steel bolsters are also perfectly flush with the wood and evenly match on both sides. One of the things I must have in a slip joint knife is a strong back spring. The back spring in this 3-rivet knife is very strong and much less likely to close on the hand with hard use. Otter Messer chose a razor sharp spear point blade in the design of this knife, which is ideal for a multitude of tasks, large and small. My knife came hair shaving sharp right out of the box. Many people avoid buying knives made with carbon steel, having the wrong perception they will turn into a rusty mess. So far from the truth. All you need to do is wipe the blade dry after using it for wet tasks, and oil it periodically. The steel will form an attractive gunmetal grey patina with time, which I look forward to.

Overall I think this 3-rivet knife is a gem of a work tool that will last for many years. A prime example of fine German workmanship. I only wish I would have bought two more as gifts for my family.
